Depiction of an hellenistic elite holplite that could have belonged to the agema (royal guard) or argyraspides (silver shields).
----A little bit of history----
The image of the typical greek warrior changed greatly during the hellenistic period. The classic overexploted by pop culture corinthian helmet was abandoned in favour of helmets such as the one depicted here, the phrygian helmet.
In terms of torso guards, linothorax was still the most usual of all, although it was ultimately replaced by the much superior roman-galic chainmail by the passing of years. The muscular anatomic torso guard (lorica musculata), like the one depicted here, was not a common thing in the period and was most certainly reserved only for high ranking officers and ceremonial matters, due to its lack of flexivility and expensive value. The purple color of the chlamys (cape) and other parts also indicates the high ranking of the character.
Hoplite warfare was also abandoned in the hellenistic period in favour of the much superior sarissa phalanx warfare. Nevertheless, on the first centuries, the elite troops still fought in a hoplite manner, being only replaced by the roman legionary way in the last centuries of the period.
